For this festive period, the Jewel Changi is now a Frozen-Themed Wonderland with several interesting new festives for the occasion. Called the Sparkling Wonders of Christmas, the establishment sees a Christmas market, performances and a snow-themed canopy park. Let’s see what a Magical Frozen Christmas at Changi Jewel have to offer.
Christmas festive and light up
The highlight of the jewel Christmas event is a massive Christmas tree on the ground floor. A 16m tall decorated Christmas tree towers over 4 storeys at the north canyon, sitting in front of the entrance towards the rain vortex park Shiseido forest valley. Don’t miss the Christmas light-up every evening from 6.30pm.
Furthermore, the Water Vortex grounds holds a Christmas parade every evening at 8pm. Performers, mascots sign along Christmas songs in a parade held daily. While the parade is a free public event to attend in November, a gripe now is that you need to spend at least $50 in the jewel to get a same-day entry for 2 to attend the Shiseido forest valley carnival. I did not manage to enjoy it on my visit, despite having dinner there. I can guess it acts as a form of crowd control into the already rather packed event. Admission are open 5pm to 11.30pm.
Festive Christmas Market
Moreover, tucked in the upper roof canopy floor of the Cloud9 Piazza at level 5 is the Jewel Festive Christmas Market. It sits by the F&B outlets and goes by the Changi Jewel magical frozen christmas theme. Also, you can find a mix of gifts and food carnival stores here, like a hipster market place or sort hawking various types of goods.
Interesting finds includes a KitKat store selling a variety of local flavours. Also, it “snows” here regularly using a non-toxic soft mix of fake snow which is actually surprising slippery when stepped on, so do be careful up here.
Additionally, there is a central Christmas tree here offering you some pretty nice photo opportunities with the cozy lit night market setting. It operates till Jan 5 and opens Fri to Sun from 10am-11pm. In addition to stores are a variety of performance artists, workshops and other fun festivities, designed to spark your Christmas creativity.
Xmas themed Canopy Park
Moreover, the roof top canopy park, like the Jewel mall, is also themed to the Christmas livery throughout. Here, lines of trees up here are decked with lighting, and Christmas cheers played across the PA. Also, the canopy park and its attractions are open daily from 10am to midnight, with some attractions closing by 10pm. Entry price cost $5 SGD for general public admission for Adult/Child/Senior. Singapore Residents get a 50 cent discount at $4.50 per ticket.
Starting off the canopy park is the hedge maze. Called the Snow Pavilions Hedge Maze this time round. Moreover, the maze is simple and intuitive to walk. You can’t really get lost here as long you do not backtrack. All roads brings you to the exit.
Moreover, the maze is decked with Christmas themed livery. And while most of the hedge maze is mostly untouched, there are some Christmas elements like a snow blower booth located between intersections in the maze.
You simply walk into the gift box-shaped pavilion booth that dot the throughout maze. The machine will automatically spray a snow effect that’s the perfect Insta-moment. The artificial snow here is similar to that found in the Christmas Market. Also, there is also a cool flower wall with pop flowers in and out of a hedge wall.
Snow Trek among Wildlife
Moving on in the Changi Jewel canopy park is the Topiary Walk Snow Walk Spectacular. This walk is a small section of park with several animal flower Topiary displays. Also, this floor in this area had been covered with artificial snow.
You be given snow equipment to don for this part of the park. Namely, a pair of snow shoes and trekking sticks to help with your “trek” through the snow.
These Topiary displays are stylised plants. They were a staple of formal European gardens in past centuries, and still have the power to amaze and amuse today. You get to see the Jewel mall’s own creative topiary versions here.
Also, there are a mix of animals and bird display, with some placed around water elements. You exit the walk by returning your snow equipment and carry on with your journey. Waits to trek is not long and are about 10 minutes on average.
Amid the greenery, how many animals do you spy? It is a selfie and photo paradise with rather adorable animals that’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
Notably there is a red phone booth said to provide a “direct line” to the North Pole. Pick up the phone inside the booth and listen to the greetings and have a chat with Santa. Also, the Topiary Walk is included in the Canopy Park ticket with the discovery slides.
Moving on, do note that some of the attractions next up are not unique to the Changi Jewel Magical Frozen Christmas, but rather part of the canopy park package you can get on a regular visit. This includes the Discovery slides and Foggy bowls.
Xmas slides and Foggy Bowls
Next up is the Discovery slides. The slide structure sits over a part of the canopy Park pathway. It is a rather eccentric looking colourful contraptions of yellow and reflections. Notably, there are 3 variants of Discovery Slides up here.
One being a standard sloped yellow slide. Climbing to the top of the discovery slides structure brings you other more challenging slides, as well a nice view of the Water vortex waterfall from the top.
Notably, there are no changes to attractions like the foggy bowl and rope jungle. Also, the foggy bowls large open manicured lawns great for kids to runs about. At times the bowls will fog up, much to the bewilderment of curious kids.
Frozen Christmas Petal Garden
Topping up the end of the canopy park is the Petal Garden. Here, you find rows of lit Christmas trees here and encased flower displays. Also, this sector also hold the Santa Meet-and-Greet. Moreover, the Petal Garden is themed to Disney’s Frozen Christmas colours, complete with a snow sled for photo opportunities.
Let Santa know what you want for Christmas. Notably, the schedule states that he is available 4 times daily till Xmas day at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Do check even schedule before attending.
Notably, Changi Jewel frozen christmas wonderland runs from Nov 21, 2019 to Jan 5, 2020. Also, it is quite a gem in the east if you are around town if you wish to the Christmas festive out of town.
In conclusion, Changi Airport still retains much it’s charm as a place for a meal and night out, made better with the transformation of a whimsical winter wonderland with shows, snowy scenes. Changi Jewel magical frozen christmas is truly one of the best Xmas experience in a mall this year.
