Hans im Glück is a German Burger Bar in Vivocity Singapore serving a variety of value for money European-style burgers with a great restaurant ambience to boot. What do the Burger bar have to offer? Let’s check it out with a dine in.
Neat restaurant ambience
The ambience has a very modern and Scandinavian feel to it. Here, you can find a combination of booth and tabled row seats.
These wooden tables line the sides of the restaurant. Also, the dining booths are encased like little open wooden huts, separated by slender imported white-bark trees. They don’t look like native tropical trees.
Also, a bar sits near the entrance of the restaurant. At times you can chance upon a decorative squirrel house perched on a couple of these trees. It gives the interior of the restaurant an open and fresh feel.
Value Gourmet burgers
Moreover, the thing to go for here are their Burgers. There are fourteen different varieties on offer, and are all beef burgers. Generally they revolve about permutations of different toppings and dressings, such as Bacon, pickles or Mushrooms. Additional staples includes a choice of selection cheeses, such as Aged Cheddar, Parmesan, or Feta cheese. Also, thankfully their menu has an English sub-description elaborating what each of the German-named burgers have so you won’t be lost.
Furthermore, you can specify how well-done you wish you Beef patties to be. A good choice would be medium to medium-rare. Moreover, Their Schnorkelloser is their standard burger with no additional toppings. There is the familiar Hans Im Glück burger at $17 which comes with Parmesan Cheese, Parma ham, rocket leaves and balsamic crème.
I went for their Grunes Gold burger ($17). It comprises of Aged Cheddar cheese, and toppings of Avocado cream. If you wish for something more American-familiar, you can’t go wrong with their Bacon options such as Geissbock ($17), Kraftpaket ($17) or wilder western ($16).
Also, their beef patties are thin firm and compact, but not as juicy as I expected them to be. The lettuce and vegetables in your burger are really fresh and springy.
Different ways to eat your burger
Additionally, topping it up, you have a choice of sourdough or multigrain buns for your burgers. Also, there is the option to have your burgers without buns (naked). When so, your burger does look tad like a mixed western grill meal. $2 extra gets you an additional extra sunny side-up fried egg.
Go for their Value set meals
Moreover, what makes Hans Gluck an establishment of great value are their set meals. A recommendation is to go for their burger set meals for $5 extra. You effectively get about $10 worth of additional food and drinks at a $5 top-up on top of the price of your burgers. This offer is available all day.
Your set meal comes served with a side as well as two drinks. Your sides comprise of a choice of salads, and two types of fries for your sides. Additionally, you have a choice of a cold refreshing mix served with a metal straw (environmentally friendly indeed?) as well as a cup of hot drink with a selection of teas, coffee.
In addition, their cold drinks like their lemonade are really refreshing. They all come topped with a dash of mint leaves at the top. I would recommend their mocha drink. Also, alternatively, you can swap out your cold non-alcoholic drink for a German draft beer or cocktail at a top-up of $9 instead of $5.
Try their sauces
Moreover, each table has 4 different unique dressing sauces. I recommend their Orangen Senf Sosse, and orange based sauce which I found tastes strangely more sweet than Orangey.
It goes very well with their plain fries. Having said that, their sweet potato fries are best consumed by themselves. Also, I found them do not pair well with the selections of sauces. I guess Sweet potatoes, being somewhat flavored themselves, are not as versatile as your traditional French fries which goes well with their selections of sauces offered.
Furthermore, what is surprising that that the meals are extreme affordable. A burger set costs you just under $20 a pop. This puts Hans Gluck comparable in the likes of other competing premium burger joints, such as Bergs burgers and Fat Papas. Also, the portions are not like the monstrous portion at Blacktap burgers at Marina Bay Sand, and is more affordable too.
However, during my visit, it was let down by rather slow service. Food arrives within a reasonable 15 minutes, but staff are nowhere to be found when you try to ask for an order or the bill. Given the benefit of the doubt, hey are rather staff-staffed and stretched during my visit.
All in all, I enjoyed my time at the Hans im Glück, despite let down by really slow and unresponsive service. I particularly enjoyed the bliss of tucking into a fresh beef Burger made from a mix of fresh ingredients of excellent quality. The cool restaurant theming, together with very reasonably prices Gourmet burgers makes the Hans im Glück a great place for both Lunch and dinner. Just the way I like it.
