About
An excerpt
an excerpt for thought

Shaun is a very busy, busy guy. When he's not curiously disassembling his kitchen microwave or fridge, daydreaming or fighting the ZZzz monsters, he is very much out there hanging out with his friends & family, drawing, gaming, jaming his guitar, coding his site, pumpin' at the gym, running himself silly in marathons.

Outgoing, creative and always full of ideas. He has always been fascinated at how things work around him. A self-taught in web developer and artist, his range of works also includes doing digital media & multimedia animations, industrial product design and concept illustrations.

Originating somewhere in the world where air-conditioning is ruled as man's greatest invention, 4D/Toto is a way of life, char kuay teow & chicken rice are worshipped delicacies & the land of the best queuers in the world... notoriously for (ahem) queuing (& fighting) over stuffed (hello kitty) toys, thats Singapore!

Currently based in UK, Shaun is currently an undergraduate student studying in University of Cambridge, majoring in Engineering. He plans to do his post-graduate studies in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has strong research interest in efficient rotary aviation and renewable energy technologies such as anti-matter production and self-containted cold fusion.

Shaun in University!

That's all we have for now, be comfy and enjoy your stay here. Cheers!

About what?
the bolts 'n' bits

Hey everything here is not about me! But if you wish to know more of the bolts 'n' bits of what I do, I'd love to share them. Here are some of my areas of interest in general, not to mention my hobbies as well.

Sports in general and as an athlete

I enjoy running for the love of the sport. I was a competitive long distance runner in my polytechnic's athletics team. Currently, my specialty largely involve long distance track and cross-country events anything from 10km to full marathons. I generally train about 3 times a week, either with 2 sessions doing cardio long distance runs (ranging from 10-15km each) and 1 session of speed work or a gym session. I total roughly an average of about 150km of running mileage a month which varies depending on the upcoming competition or event I am preparing for.

I swim on Sunday mornings when there are no competitions for that particular weekend, also to keep my form during that time of the day. I am also a NAUI trained open water scuba diver. I usually do not count my calories and eat just about anything (so as my team coach suggests as well), except before competitions. I also do not believe in taking supplements, so as not to be dependent on them.

Running is not only a passion but a way of life for me, it keeps me recharged for the challenges of the day ahead.

As an artist

I had been drawing since I knew how to hold a pen, for me strangely it came rather naturally even at a very young age without any formal art training. I was rather inquisitive and literally drew anything I like. My parents once told me that I even illustrated my kindergarten spelling list of objects with drawings as a memory aid while others are memorizing alphabets.

My art genres range from mechanical works, such as automobiles and machines in general to figure drawing and cartoons. I do a mix of them, though my forte lies in realistic mechanical art. Drawing, let be art is a sense of expression, let be a source of knowing what I can create. Personally I feel that an artist should not be confined with limitations, let be influenced by someone else's style or work. I do not believe in references when drawing, preferring to draw from visualising in the mind, let be in 2 or 3 dimensions.

Sadly, I do not have as much time to draw now as before. However, whenever I do I always never cease to amaze even myself at what I always come up in the end. It's always something new and challenging on each empty canvas I undertake.

Engineer and inventor

I have a whack for engineering and inventing stuffs since young, I remembered having built contraptions with things I find lying around the house when I am 6 and had been going ever since. I enjoy adding value to the world I personally find engineering complimentary to my other hobbies and passion, brings about a harmonic fusion of many of my favorite pastimes and hobbies, such as drawing, designing, inventing and programming.

This proved to be rather invaluable in the practice as it allows me to see things not only from the artist's perspective, yet from an engineer's point of view in what's practically possible, quite much like a new age engineer with a flair in visual content, always interesting with new techniques and challenges at every corner.

Rapid prototyping is one of my few engineering expertise I particularly enjoy doing, I see myself much of a person who like to put ideas and concepts through reality and not just on paper, often realizing new ideas which could have a large future impact on our lives.

You can check out my inventions page for some contraptions I've managed to compile online, it features some personal works as well those done with my team of dedicated experts.

In community service

My communitial line of duty often see me helping the lives of others- from teaching children, cheering and interacting with the elderly, to public awareness or fund raising services. Few notable ones will be my overseas community service trips, such as those I spent in rural Indonesia teaching students and orphans the English in classes. Local ones will include public fund raisers for disaster relief and various charitable organizations such as those for the annual President's challenge.

We can only give so much, yet needs are realistically endless. What keeps me going are usually the end result which is usually far from priceless- let be the cheers, smiles and satisfaction you bring to the less-fortunate. It's just my way of helping the under privileged at home or abroad and making a difference to their lives.

As a gamer

I consider myself to be quite a gamer, a PC gamer to be exact, despite being more exposed to consoles such as Nintendo entertainment system (NES) and Sega Saturn during my growing up days. I particularly enjoy playing real-time strategy games, such as those from Blizzard and the Command & Conquer series since their first releases. Racing games such as those from the Test drive and Need for Speed series are another of my liking. Other than that, there's action games such as GTA and my favorite first person shooters such as Team Fortress, Counter-strike, Quake and Unreal.

I seldom play RPG games, (with the exception some action-RPG), but not MMORPG as I find them boring and repetitive, also given the opportunity costs of spending so much time on games. I ain't really an ultra 1337, but I used to play competitively during my school days, representing in clan, turf matches or organizing them as well. But those were the old days, I guess I've outgrown clans and competitive play. Gaming is more of a pastime for now.
