running routes and sport articles
I love running, at the same time trying out new routes each time I do. Here are few of my favorite running routes focused mainly around the central and southern Singapore. Shared and covered in the articles are various aspects of the route as well as personal feedback which makes up the review I find as a runner myself, who knows you might even find your next favorite route here too! Newer Articles are added on top of the list.
The southern park ridges is part of the newly constructed park connectors which aims to completely link all the various parks in Singapore in a continuous round island loop, taking you from ends such as Choa Chu Kang to Changi coast road. This southern portion of the island loop (also known as the Southern ridges) spans a total distance of 9km from Mt Faber via Harbour Front and ending at West Coast Park and takes about 3-5 hours to complete. Will the attractions such as the Henderson Waves, the Forest walk, the Alexndra Arch and the Hortpark live up their expectations? Find out more in this 3 page review on the route.
This park connector route is a 1.2km extension to the existing Alexandra/Tanglin connector spanning from River Vallery to Tanglin Road (Near Crescent Girls School) reaching into the heart of queenstown. Though relatively shorter, the thing which sets this track apart from the rest of the route is the array of family-friendly facilities littered all along the extension, ranging from fish ponds, many playgrounds for the young and old, not to mention a bungie jungle and a skate park!
Ulu Pandan/Sunset Lane Canal As ulu as the name may sound (no pun intended) this running route is part of the park connector line of tracks which are planned to be linked all round Singapore. It generally employs the pavements built along side service canals to provide interconnectivity between regions. The Ulu Pandan route is no exception as a starting point towards the western park connectors.
Alexandra/Tanglin Park Connector is one of my favorite central urban running routes to date, this route brings you through the breathtaking and calming estates of Alexandra and Prince Charles road alongside a canal in a straight forward closed (and no-brainer) route. The track was opened by Mr Lee Kuan Yew around 2006 and is often frequented by the residents around the area.
Tiong Bahru Park had been around for a long time even with it's previous face-lift and the introduction of Gan Eng Seng Secondary next door, taking a large chunk of it's old land area and introducing a dedicated soccer field. The place started off as left over land from a sewage plant only to converted into a dedicated park a long time back.
Situated in the confines and tucked behind hills and light industries, this running route brings you the sights and sounds of our country's past together with rather breath-taking views. The place is not exactly accessible. If you were to drive there, it's just a stone throw away from Pasir Panjang with ample public parking spaces upon reaching the sea walk park car area
Uh-oh end of the list, more to come!
