In the contrast of the glitz and flamboyance of the downtown Las Vegas strip comes a more conservation side of Las Vegas. Come the Fremont Street experience Las Vegas, Nevada. It is situated at the old parts or old town of Las Vegas. If you are in the Las Vegas Nevada neighbourhood, Fremont is one of the sights you ought to visit.
Buzzing Fremont street
The streets gets really buzzing at night. Greeting you right at the Fremont street experience is an extensive animated shelter called the Viva vision.
The interior portion of the shelter houses an array of animated LEDS circling through several animated scenes depicting Vegas points of interest to the star spangled banner.
Viva Vision animated screen
In addition, at night, an animated fireworks spectacle can be seen here too. This animated Viva vision show happens every hourly after 6pm, operated by Fremont street experience (FSE), LLC. Also, the screens also provides much needed sun shade from the afternoon sun. However, the place is notably busier at night. With more shops and pubs open.
Running along the Fremont street experience is the Flying fox glide attraction. You would notice it by the presence of multiple guide wires runs above the walkway parallel to the animated roof. Additional points of interests here includes the World’s Largest Keno Board at The D, and the Slot-zilla machine.
The Slot-zilla is a large 12 floor tall animated slot machine housing a zip line station which runs the length of the Viva Vision shelter. At times you can see and hear distant screams of the riders being zip-lined across from one end of the street to the other.
Things are cheaper here
Moreover, this part is also known as the old town of Las Vegas. This is where the locals actually hang out, away from the pricey Las Vegas strip. When walking the stretch, several food and beverage stores, restaurants selling really affordable food (like a restaurant grill meal meal for under $10), and gifts shops can be found here lined along this stretch.
Wares and food considerably much cheaper than those offered in the Downtown strip. Hence, Fremont is also the spot where you can find reduced prices of Las Vegas souvenirs. These shops are everywhere here.
Furthermore, you can find street buskers, artists during paid works and small challenge booths offering awards if you can complete a feat (like hanging on a pull-up bar for 100 seconds). If you are hungry, there are a variety of themed restaurants such as the interestingly hospital-themed Heart Attack Grill. It is quite a gastronomical affair.
Downtown Vibes
Moreover, when I was there, the entire Central Fremont Central Street was transformed into a makeshift concert area. It comprises of several small live band and a main concert area packed with party goers. Moving on, heading toward the east is the Fremont East Entertainment District stretch.
You can find the downtown’s vibrant restaurant and bar scene. Here, it comprises of and like the strip is also buzzing with life, complete with neon light signs.
Fremont East is home to a couple of restaurants which fuel the night life and opens till late. Selections includes the La Comida and Le Thai, Commonwealth, Therapy restaurant, Flippin’ Good Burgers & Shakes or Downtown Cocktail Room.
Fremont Container Park
Moreover, there is a container park location beyond Fremont East. You can recognise the establishment by a large fire breathing praying mantis. You definitely can’t miss it. It shoots hurts of fire from its head at timed intervals.
Notably, things start to get quieter beyond the container park. The streets continues on with small dots of notable small bars and pubs along this stretch before going quiet on an alleyway of inns.
All in all, Fremont Street is a great way to spend an evening in town in Las Vegas. Now we know why the street is a favourite for locals and tourists alike.
