Let’s do a short exploration of the city of Toronto in Canada. The Canadian city is a rather chill one and is the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario and a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario.
Toronto is the most populous city in Canada. Also, the city of Toronto is pretty much walkable on foot. The city follows through a logical layout. There are trams and buses as public transport as well as a great underground subway system.
Moreover, all city transport links back to the heart of the city Union Station. It is a major railway station and inter-modal transport hub connecting trams, buses and long distance rail in Toronto.
Also, the Toronto underground subway serving 4 lines. It tad does resemble a cleaner version of New york subway. The city is home to a recorded population of 2.7 million in 2016. Yet still it does not feel packed or overly dense like Singapore.
Toronto Canada, a chill city
Additionally, Toronto is busy in the “busy” areas such as downtown and the shopping district. Yonge Street is one such street to check out. It is home to hundreds of retail stores lined along the long street comprising of independent boutiques, chain stores and bargain shops
Also, you can find a range of boutiques, cafes restaurants and high street fashion stores along the downtown area shopping stretch too. You can spend time at various Art galleries like the Toronto art gallery just off the Chinatown district (a place good for authentic Hong Kong food and Asian buffets too).
Also, notable landmark here includes the Roger’s Center stadium known for baseball and American football matches and home of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Additionally, In contrast, if the downtown is too much buzz for you, the Toronto waterfront is a nice place for a walk. It is mostly rather quiet and offers nice views of a city by the bay. There are several cafes here you can enjoy a cuppa by the bay too.
Going up the CN Tower
Moreover, an attraction worthy to check out in Toronto is the CN Tower. It stands at 553.3m tall, and is a concrete-built communications and observation tower. It sits right in the heard of downtown core of Toronto, Ontario.
Going up the CN Tower elevator uses High-speed elevators which are built on the exterior concrete faced of the massive tower.
Also, these zip up with ceiling to floor windows at the elevator side allowing you to watch the evolution of the view and Toronto city skyline as you go up. At night, the elevators have LED lighting which appears like zipping lit capsules.
CN tower was the world tallest Tower
Additionally, the CN Tower was the world’s tallest free-standing structure until 2007, and was the world’s tallest tower until 2009. For a good period of 32 years till it was surpassed by the Burj Khalifa at Dubai, in the UAE.
The top observation tower deck is enclosed, with a 360 degree surrounding glass windows. There are a couple of viewing telescopes which you can use.
Also, up here there are some parts of the observation deck floor replaced by polycarbonate panels allowing you to view the ground below the deck at height. Not for those with vertigo!
CN Tower open upper deck
The upstairs has an open air viewing deck which offers unobstructed 360 views. The top deck here is enclosed with cable grills and is extremely windy up here. Also for $10 extra, you can head up to a viewing pod for views higher up the tower.
From up the tower, you can see the entire downtown Toronto just below the tower. It stretches eastward as far the horizon goes. The views are inland on the north and Toronto waterfront and Lake Ontario out into the south.
Furthermore, you would pass by Watkins Glenn and Niagara falls on your way up. If you are up in the US east coast in Niagara checking out the falls, the Canadian city of Toronto is not too far off.
All in all, you do need a couple more days if you wish to explore the city of Toronto in more depth. Still, a good day trip when touring the Niagara falls on your visit up from the US east coast.
