Quick casual Swiss dining

Wursthans is located on the buzzing open concourse ground floor at Paya Lebar Quarter by Paya Lebar Road. Moreover, their restaurant has tad of a Swiss or Scandinavian flair decked with light wood. This can be seen on their trays, furniture and general deco.

Furthermore, the restaurant itself is not large and offers a mix of smaller tabled seating good for groups of 4 and high counter seating. A central kitchen sits centerpiece in the restaurant where a buzzer will buzz you when your order is ready.

On being seated, you place your order on digital POS machines. Also, these are synonymous to the machines you see in fast food restaurants like MacDonalds. A particular thing I like about dining here at Wursthans is their no-frills quick dining approach. And you think that the Japanese are pioneers in fast dining like our experience we had at Sukiya Gyudon.

Hearty Wok platter

Their main selling dish be their mix and match “swiss meal” mini woks priced starting from the $15.90 mark. In typical European style, your mains are offered in 4 main varieties, sausage, meat slabs or chicken of your choosing, allowing you to create your own Swiss meal with a combination of sides.

Moreover, recommended items includes roasted half chicken ($18.90). Also, if you are more adventurous, their meatloaf and salmon mains are less conventional choices. It is quite a delightful offering from the norm.

Wursthans Switzerland smoke salmon pan ($19.90), paired with potatoes and mushrooms (additional $2.50). A recommended sides combination, though is one of the more pricey offerings.

Additionally, their salmon is tad more the underwhelming for the price, especially if you are looking for fresh salmon. The salmon here is smoked, prepared and served in thin flavourful slices. Also, their smoked salmon could be tad bit too salty for some.

Furthermore, recommended mains selections revolve Boneless chicken thigh ($16.90). It is essentially oven-roasted chicken which is surprising juicy without being too dried out within. There are several pork mains too, with choice of Smoked Bacon, Swiss style, as well as their Grilled pork cervelats (pork chops) at $16.90.

Wrapping up their mains are a choice of sausages, like their cheese chick and spicy chicken sausage. Though I might find it hard pressed to find a sausage adequate for a dinner, Bratwurst in Veal or Beer flavours (both $17.90 mains).

Great sides to make a meal

Additionally, with your mains selected, you can mix and match a choice of 2 sides. Options here includes mixes of veggies or potatoes. Recommendations includes their Sauté Mushrooms and roasted veggies, also you can’t stray far from Sauerkraut, a Swiss-German favourite, as well as their Mesculun mix Salad. For the hungry, the sides of Regular Rosti, Black truffle or Swiss egg pasta is an option too. However, do note that certain sides like mushrooms cost a payable 50 cent extra.

Also, in totality, I found Wursthans Switzerland offerings sits at a price point similar to that of Marcie movenpick. If you fancy a Swiss flaire, Marcie is probably the next most well-known European quick dining restaurant in Singapore. However, Wursthans offerings instead is less of a marketplace.

Less impressive sauces

However, their accompanying sauces are the less impressive offerings. Interesting offerings includes their Dijion Mustard, which is a traditional French mustard which is richer in taste and more spicy than regular mustard. Also, their Cumon Aioli has a wasabi taste to it. It might be more Japanese fusion than European you can imagine.

However, the sauces are quite let down by the lack of presentation and served in plastic containers which appeared to be pulled out from a fridge. Still, the meal is flavourful enough to be had even without any additional sauces.

All in all, Wursthans is not a bad place for quick meals Swiss style. I particularly enjoyed the flexibility to mix and match your mains and sides to make your meal truly yours. Quite the find here at Paya Lebar.

Verdict:

Must Go! | Actually pretty Good | Worth Trying | Shortlist Optionally | Should Avoid
