Bird Avenue, located in Centrepoint Mall at Orchard road, Singapore, offers a blend of classic and modern dining experiences. Originally a small eatery, it has grown into a popular restaurant specializing in chicken-based dishes with unique twists. The restaurant is well-loved by both locals and tourists for its diverse menu, especially its flame-grilled chicken. Let’s take a dine-in.
At Bird Avenue, you place your order and pay at the entrance counter before being seated. This restaurant setup is tad similar to other casual dining establishments, like Astons Specialties Steak and Grill we dined at previously. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, making Bird Avenue a comfortable spot for both small and large groups. I found the dining experience bridges the gap between fast food and sit-down dining, offering a relaxed setting with table service.
Also, the interior boasts a modern, minimalist design with comfortable seating. Bright lighting and clean decor create a welcoming atmosphere. The walls are adorned with arty murals, including one featuring Hei Hei the rooster, adding a quirky touch. The attentive and friendly staff enhance the overall dining experience.
What’s on the menu
As the name suggests, Bird Avenue is a chicken specialist. Previously known as “La Bird“, the restaurant has evolved to serve a variety of western grill dishes. Also, the menu includes beef steaks, lamb chops, and a variety of chicken preparations, such as fried chicken cutlets, grilled chicken chops, and whole spring chicken. Meals come with standard side staples with a choice of pasta, butter corn rice, fries and salad.
One large standout dish is the Mixed Grill, priced at $17.90. This hearty meal includes lamb, chicken chop, and a large sausage, making it ideal for the hungry diner. The lamb is adequately juicy, while the chicken stands out for its flavour and texture. The sausage adds a satisfying finish to the plate.
A place for chicken
For a classic option, try the Grilled Chicken Steak (chicken chop) at $9.90. It’s a dependable choice for those unsure of what to order. Also, I found their chicken chop not a bad basic choice and is juicy with chewy chicken breast cuts paired well with their brown sauce.
Moreover, their Half Spring Chicken, priced at $13.90, is another excellent option, offering generous portions without breaking the bank. If you’re feeling indulgent, the Crispy Whole Spring Chicken, priced at $22.50, is worth considering.
Moreover, their Chicken Cutlet at $9.90 is noted for its crispy batter and juicy meat. It’s served with french fries, lettuce salad, and a tangy sauce with BBQ and peppery undertones. If you prefer pasta, their aglio olio is mildly spicy but can be customized to your liking.
Non-chicken options include their Grilled Beef Steak ($15.90) and Grilled Salmon ($14.90). While these dishes provide variety, consistency can vary; some cuts may be greasier than others. Sides like rice and pasta makes for a more filling meal too and are a better alternative to the french fries, which can feel dry. Their salad, though chilled and refreshing, could use a stronger flavour.
Wrapping up
The pricing at Bird Avenue is reasonable, with generous portions that justify the cost. Service is prompt, with minimal waiting times for food, which you collect from the pickup counter. However, the restaurant can get busy during peak hours, leading to occasional delays. Making a reservation is advisable, especially for larger groups. The moderate noise level makes it suitable for casual gatherings and family meals.
Bird Avenue at Centrepoint Mall is a recommended dining spot for its diverse menu and standout chicken dishes. The innovative menu, attentive service, and comfortable setting create a pleasant dining experience. Avoid overly rich or spicy dishes if these are not to your taste. With its range of comfort foods served in a casual environment, Bird Avenue caters to different palates and occasions.
