The Alienware launch party last week was held at the 1-Altitude bar at 1 Raffles Place. The place is decked out cool for the occasion right up on the 61st floor of the former OUB center. The event started with a spacey unveiling of the laptop range comprising of the Alienware 13, 15 and 17. In line with Alienware’s commitment to bringing gamers the ultimate gaming experience through top hardware, the new Alienware laptops are designed to be smaller and thinner without compromising on performance. The recently launched Alienware 13 is by far Alienware’s thinnest laptop, and the new Alienware 15 and 17 are both more than 20% thinner than their predecessors.

On first impressions, this new laptop build quality is excellent, the laptop feels premium with a solid build and feels nice when carried which does not flex when held. Dell has indeed gone brought this new line of laptops under a new major makeover, decked out in and spared no expense in the use of premium materials. Each laptop features copper heatsinks and chassis is built using a combination of aluminum and aerospace-inspired carbon fiber reinforced plastic materials for a rigid and performance-focused mechanical design. The keyboards offers uniform typing feedback, ensuring comfortable travel and quick response in games.

“Alienware prides itself in delivering cutting edge devices which revolutionize gaming through listening and understanding gamers’ needs”
-Chue Chee Wei, regional managing director at Dell.

The laptop carbon fiber reinforced plastic chassis is one up from the traditional aluminum and magnesium chassis common in the market today and feels surprising light for its bulk. The palm rest area is surprisingly large and isn’t warm after prolonged usage. All systems comes with a thunderbolt port and HDMI as standard (4k compatible), as well as Killer gigabit Ethernet and the Killer Wireless 802.11ac WiFi. Audio on all the laptops are powered by Klipsch and Creative Soundblaster X-FI. It’s nice to see that Alienware has kept the favorites such as the fully customisable backlit (AlienFx) keyboard and logos. The trademark AlienFx lighting has 20 zones and can be independently lighted to a colour of your choice. The GTX 980m in the 15 and 17 is something worth to be proud of.
