The World Press photos exhibition is an annual showcase of the best of press photography. Featured is a compilation of photos taken within the past year. The exhibition runs annually in Singapore. Also, it had been held at the National Museum galleries for the past few years. Like check out what the World Press Photos 2019 has to offer.
Furthermore, the exhibition for this year runs from the 5th to 27th October 2019. It is held at the National Museum of Singapore. Within, you can find free-standing photo boards placed along the museum common foyer as well as the Stamford gallery near the Museum’s main Stamford road entrance.
The Oscars of photo-journalism
The event is often known as the Oscars of photo-journalism. Here, winning entries were decided by a team of international experts. Also, they gather annually to decide on the winners of nominations of each photo category.
Here, the World Press Photo exhibition features these award-winning images. Also, they are all printed on large A1 format posters placed around the museum galleries. Theses are images which captures the daily headlines.
Furthermore, captured were these images by press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers globally, covering photo journalism from any angle. Examples includes categories on spot news, nature, sports and photo stories.
Moreover, notable photos on displays includes those of stories Opioids crisis, Mexican border walls as well as breathtaking nature photography. Also, there is also a feature on African poachers and Conflicts in Syria.
Also, as always, the galleries do feature thought-provoking images, as well heart-breaking photos of grief and pain. These are some of the powerful images on display. Moreover, as a visitor, they are open to interpretation and critique. It does gets visitors thinking.
Singapore Straits Times Gallery
Additionally, the Singapore Straits Times also usually concurrently runs their own photo exhibition “The Lens” together with the World Press photos. Similarly, featured are also local photos taken during the past year. This covers a range of local community and major events in Singapore, such as regional summits and the more recent Singapore F1 grand Prix.
Moreover, at the end of the main gallery is an audio visual viewing areas where guests can watch video interviews of local photo journalism. In addition to the displays, the museum also run a series of planned talks by Award-Winning Photographers, particularly those by our local photo journalists.
