Let’s check out Spruce Bukit Timah today with a dine-in. They offer some good selections of grilled food and a bar to boot. The restaurant is a casual dining restaurant up along upper Bukit Timah road.
Notably, the establishment sits in a now decommissioned Bukit Timah fire station. The building was built in 1956. Furthermore, the establishment offers both a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Additionally, it does not get overly warm outdoor here, making sitting outside a viable option, if you do not mind the occasional mosquito. Also, the indoor setting is cosy and air conditioned. A drinks bar sits in the centre of the interior.
Additionally, despite the station now home to Spruce restaurant, it still retains its distinctive red fire station doors. The eatery boasts a 3,000 square feet of dining space, with an indoor capacity to house 150 people. Notably, when seated outside, you can still see the iconic hose tower, which is typical of Fire stations.
Chill European cuisine
Moreover, Spruce touts that their restaurant concept was formed out of the love of wholesome and unpretentious Modern European cuisine. Also, the restaurant touts of serving guests with warm hospitality, which the establishment exclaims as a trademark for Spruce.
Furthermore, the restaurant offers a fine dining experience over a range of western dishes, without breaking the bank. Also, during my visit, I had a try of their steaks, which were pretty good quality and cooked well to the doneness you specify on ordering. My medium rare steak was served with a nice potpourri of salad sides and thick cut potato fries.
Also on plates to share, I would recommend their mini burgers. Here, you get 3 tiny burgers on a small plate and are great for small groups to share as an appetizer. In addition, Spruce serves wine by the bottle or by the glass.
Getting to Spruce Bukit Timah
Additionally, the area at Upper Bukit Timah is highly accessible via roadside buses, as well as offering free parking within the Firestation grounds. Also, interestingly the carpark is surrounded by old fire station dormitories blocks. Today, these blocks are occupied by various companies using them as office spaces. The nearest MRT station is beauty world along the Downtown line.
All in all, Spruce is a nice chill place for European food in the rustic quiet neighbour of Bukit TImah. It being located in a historical building just makes it more an interesting place to visit for a dinner chill out.
