Self Study week? ekk!

SuperBus super Empty?

Classes this week are as empty as the bus I was on today to school mmm, I guess I can even skip school tomorrow, no point going for class when you’ve already sucked the teachers dry of questions only to sit in a quiet class face to face with your lecturer & crickets chirping continously in the background.

And there we have it by Wednesday today. GEMS & CRS modules cleared! ontop of the Workshop practice modules. Now I can try (wheee!) dump these notes outta view. Scored 95& for my workshop practical so thats 52.25 marks of the 55% weighage as a whole, plus 100% for my last class test, I can see a total predicted score of 95.25% for this module. Hopefully can get a distinction for it. Other than that, CRS seems cool, & I felt I did quite a good argumentative response in the final written test. Whether I can get a distinction for Character development is still uncharted, but a high chance I am not betting too much on either. So lets not count the chickens before they are hatched & carry on with the other 4 modules left in the semester… 😉

Undergraduate admissions for NUS & NTU are open! Don’t know should I even try applying again this year, $20 total for registration charges ani’t cheap too, but haha me ain’t no cheapo too. Furthermore I am coping relatively well & enjoying the CCA points & progress in Poly, will it be “a break” if I leave poly to uni? I guess any wise soul will say that its no harm to try to register for the 06/07 of under grad administrations anyway, haiz.

Update: Registered already for both NUS & NTU… for the 4th year in a roll already… 😳
now gotta hunt down an atm to pay the registrations fees….

Multi-touch screens

Check this out man, multi-touch screens, will minority report styled screens be a thing of reality for mainstream consumers now? Neato!

Exams Coming

4
Semester 2 Exams

Exams are just around the corner, in fact the first paper is in in less than 2 weeks time. Though I more or less studied for the papers already, my current state will only allow at least a pass or the most a low B, I guess its the hard work which counts for the As or Distinctions. Last but not least to truely shine as top 5% on the board of Honours again.

I aim to obtain at least 4 Distinctions this semester, either maintaining the record from the previous Semester or to score even better, moreover there will be no grade less than an A for me. An obession? maybe… & maybe thats what 2 years in Junior College made me I guess, despite my long break in the Army. Furthermore I really really want the scholarship study grant this year, so got to work hard for it. By mid next week I will be able to clear the last papers of 3 modules I am taking now, thus bringing down the load signifcantly, them being:

  • Workshop (Engineering) – Practical last day, online exam
  • Critical Reasoning Skills – Argumentative essay writing test
  • GEMS – VisualBasic.NET ICA3 exams

After that, I will have 4 written papers starting 22nd Feb to 1st March

  • Engineering Mathematics – 22nd Feb
  • C++ Programming – 24th Feb
  • Engineering Materials – 27th Feb
  • Electrical Technology – 1st March

Should be going into the advanced stages of “Mug Mode” already. With that, I will be cutting down training to twice a week, (gym on Wednesday & Macritchie X-country competition on Saturday), otherwise its plain study, no more usual Sunday swim next week. I guess you won’t see many blog updates too till the end of Semester Exams.

Wish me luck!

End of CNY 06 period

CNY Closing Fireworks

And so there was, fireworks at the esplanade promenade at around 9pm yesterday, signifying the end of the chinese new year period… Putting aside the oranges, red packet or goodies (with the exceptional need to finish leftovers!) & move on into the year of the dog.

Mum invited cousin Gordon, his family, not to mention us again to Walton International’s 2nd buffet gathering in a fortnight. Held at One-Fullerton, we not only got the luxury of a buffet with movie screenings, but being able to view the fireworks unobstructed through a clear air-conditioned equivalent of a balcony as well. The gathering this time round is more packed then the last. Mum even managed to get her team leader to give us a short pep talk & introduction into the whole idea of the rather lucrative land banking business, a wise old man he is & he shared plenty on his experience in the line & how he made the millions & such.

Ahha forget about the recent 10 million dollar 4D man! If you want the greens, you work for it. Only big time that is!

On a side note, the SAF finally paid me my marksman bonus for last year’s range (2nd year of service), only that it’s one year late. Typical of SAF administration… Screwy… Now if they can only remember to pay the marksman bonus I obtained the year before (1st year of service).

Whee got a Cardreader!

Whee! New cardreader for my PC

Gone are the days of shifting back & fourth the portable card reader between PCs at home anymore, Furthermore my sis uses the one & only card reader in the house as a school thumbdrive (expandable so as she says), so its like oh darn no media card transfers when shes out – every time. Yes, finally now my PC has a dedicated USB2.0 cardreader & its like OMG POW! Everything- all- uber- all- in- one!, able to read almost any card you throw at it. The best thing is that it’s not “usb-hubbed” meaning it runs the pipeline straight from the motherboard spare USB pin connectors, so I get pure USB 2.0 speeds not only for the card reader, but the additional external USB output port too.

Caught in the rain while at bugis today. To purchase the reader, check out & update on hardware prices at Simlim before meeting up & discussing business matters with Anderson.

Mmm in school stuffs, funny, so far 2 people approached me in school so far, asking whether they I like to go for regular swims with them at the campus pool. Personal trainer? But the worst thing is that they are ALL GUYS.. brrwwharr! Strange… Any chicks?

3rd in whole level?

4
Me?? Honours??? YEA!!!

I am 3rd in MY WHOLE LEVEL!!??! Honours? hahaha whee!

But wait that is old news… the rankin’s had been on the boards for like for months now… & I didn’t even know about it… Haiz…

The ironic thing is at 4 out of the people listed in the list are from my class! haaha ELITO!

Thanks for informing me on this JinLiang!

70 Hour Radio Gag

With Mod Monteiro at the 70 hr radio gag

Remember about me mentioning about the 70 hour radio gag previously? ahha found some time to drop my orchard this evening after training to meet up with sis, at the same time catching up on the crowd in front of Ngee ann city now. We all know that 7 DJ radio personalities from various stations will come together & stay silent for 70 hours. The last one standing getting $70,000 for their adopted charity. Initially from the news, it seems that the DJs are like living in a age of comfort with sponsored massage chairs, internet access, the cubicles even looks air-conditioned.

On the contrary, the place is one big huge stuffy place, though an open tent. Maybe with an average 100+ at anytime around the event tentage, I guess the DJs are better off without the “heat”. Not to mention having to bear the afternoon Sun the day too. There is no one eliminated till now, I guess not having to talk for 70 hours in luxury don’t prove a task too hard to handle either, will like 12hours to go there will definitely be ties, with each station possibility taking $10,000 from the $70,000 for their charities.

Got around taking photos with the DJ from my favorite station & show – Mod Monteiro on CLASS 95FM! Too bad Jean Danker wasn’t around that time. Mmm, I look stiff & a mess in the picture… haiz, haha can’t help it lah after track & field training for the evening, clocking 8km of runs…. but otherwise a good picture too. Mum went off photo taking with her few favorite old-school Gold 90.5 FM DJ Hubert Tang. Let the 70 hour radio gag be a gate to more “interesting” events to come.

Dinner was at Red Lion zee-cha again before reaching home around 11pm. 😐 What a day! 🙂

Upcoming events

Sushi Comp

Mmm, Sushi by the computer, Mum brought loads from her trip to the supermarket just now & theres plenty for everyone. Well with that let me get on with some blabbering…

Logged into SAS after like since god-knows-when. I mean they create this facilities for us students who don’t even know such stuff exists until our lecturers painstakingly remind us of its “presence”. Usually when there is a need to do surveys or feedback. Signed in & navigated to the various links & to my astonishment, my CCA point count is 50 now.. OMG! 50 CCA points in year ONE? & its not even end semester yet… whee! I think thats an A+ merit grade right? hehehehe… well I have 2 options now, either to cut down on track competition events since I already got A+, or keep it up the points & get like the DIST points range (rumored to be around 150pts) by end of year 3. Haiz decisions decisions.

Updates Engineering workshop theory test: 100/100  Duh our lecturer even gave out chocolates & Oreos for anyone scoring 80 & above haha, let be obliging & be Kids for the moment in campus ah? (mommy no cookie? please dun bash me!) 2 more weeks, I guess I should start studying for my semester exams already… mug mug mug.. bye bye life for now…

Oh yea on events, there would be a 10km cross-country event on the 18th Feb at Macritchie & the NTU national vertical marathon on 12th March, so that is the sporting highlights for the few months to come. Also, I signed up for some Scuba Diving lessons during the spring holidays, would be getting my worldwide open water diving certification on March… whee!

& so was the week

Reunion Dinner

And so there was the year of the pooch, so fast so easy. So little AhPao money… As the saying goes as you get older, you get lesser Ang pao money you get… haiz so true…

Reunion Dinner was at Happy Joy Restaurant last saturday at Bukit Merah Central, though its within walking distance from home, it never crossed my mind of a full fledged Chinese restaurant residing in within the central, its all always hawker hawker, fast food & coffee shops, nothing of this “class” so as I thought. Furthermore this restaurant had been around for ages, like almost a 10 years+ old but its actually our first time eating there. The crowd there was healthy for a Saturday night, & the KTV private eating rooms are all mostly booked, with like-horrid customer singing faintly echoing through the walls on resonance. We had the usual 6 persons Yusheng course though there is only 4 of us in the family (a 4 persons set can’t feed us gluttons).

Mmmm talking about Yusheng, there was attempt to set the longest Yusheng in Redhill Market few days ago I guess.. it was even on the news… haha didn’t find time to join in for the fun… Too busy, Dang I even had to turn my secondary school friends annual Yusheng & chingay gathering last saturday because of clashes of events.. haiz if only I can be at 2 places at once… Sorry guys!

Anyone up on the 70 hour radio gag going on at Ngee ann city now? I support Rod Monteiro Class 95 FM! Well, maybe because he, together with Jean Danker hosts my favorite “Car Tunes” show every weekday!

Ahha!

Happy Chinese New Year Woof! woof!

CNY 2006 Esplanade Fireworks

Ahh so it was, by the Singapore River on a Chinese New Year eve, enjoying the Fireworks by the sea.

The sea breeze blowing, a night to behold, a sight to enjoy. The year of the rooster was a rather interesting year with its own ups, downs & challenges. Ahead of us will be a lineup of more challenges to meet, beat & achieve. Whether its in school, work, health, you name it.

May the lunar year of the Dog brings all great prosperity & success.

Happy Chinese New Year!

End of Semester Mid Term Tests

2
Study study study

Whew, it’s finally another time to relax after a long week of studying for term tests, presentations, lab & practicals. I guess I shouldn’t push myself so hard either, considering it being a nice long weekend next week. Whats more it’s Chinese New Year too. Should take a short rest from work over the weekend before keeping up the tempo next week for the Semester exams in late Feb. Anyway, due to the recent spade of holidays back-to-back, our lecturers are frantically pulling their hair out trying to squeeze as much make up lessons in compensation to time lost to the holidays, particularly Dr Boyle, our engineering lecturer. The exam schedule is already up on the student adminitraion site. On the line up, I guess I won’t be able to make the Singapore Dualthon late Feb considering it being smacked right between 2 semester exam papers. Next Sem will start in April with shorter summer holidays for us. Crazy crazy…

Updates for the week
Week’s running mileage (burning of DS-Trainers) – 33km

Class test grade update

  • C++ Programming : 100/100
  • Electrical Technology : 96/100

Looks good, now lets see those marks for the semester exams too!

Talking about going crazy, try checking this site out!

IVP 10000m event

0
IVP 10000m

Completed the 10000m event today in 47mins, way off my target of 40mins, maybe because its a rather mental event having to run 25 rounds round the standard 400m track. The last runner finished in +7mins & man did the whole grandstand cheered on for him Though this is a 10th position timing, its a good exposure for me as a 1st time on the competitive IVP field (so as coach wanted it to be). Furthermore, I get the “bragging/picking rights” after beating Pohfong, my track & field senior’s timing of 54mins in last year’s 10000m IVP. Bwwrhahaha evil me! On top of the 2 events today (other being the 3000m womens), SP also bagged a gold medal from our pole vaulters. I guess today’s competition is a true reflection of sportsmanship, not only by competitors but from the individual runners themselves. Living by the olympic creed, let me take sometime to admire it again:

“The most important thing in the Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

— the Olympic creed, Baron Pierre de Coubertin

Would be burning in my new Asics DS-Trainer XI tomorrow with a 5km run around SP, in turn retiring my old DS-Trainer 7 as a competition & training shoe with a mileage of 800km.
