Outing with Primary school friends

0

MEGA UPDATE AHEAD! otherwise a good long read
yes, it had been almost a decade since we met. It came unexpectedly too after just using the “school search feature” on friendster one day & punk!, managed to linkup with one of my old primary school friends- Weisheng where I got to know many many more, Phua Yee Koon, Sherlyn, lynn & almost the whole class now.

So it calls for a gathering or so. With Weisheng as the organiser Few weeks in the planning & hey there we were, yesterday with about 5 ppl at pastamania for lunch at cineleisure orchard. Its not the biggest gathering to date, as soon I’ve learned many of them had met up with some other for quite sometime too while this being my first. Well.. considering that they are still western Singapore kids, while I am a central kid. Umm, so the circle & links still hovers around the western side, unlike myside where my secondary & JC one lies… & soon to be my poly circle.. DUH!

Many of them are still recognizable, very much a “select- & vertical/horizontal stretch/transformation” to what they are now, (Dang! I think I need to get away from photoshop for awhile…) otherwise facial looks are very, very much like what I still remember. The funny thing is that I’ve got alot of comments of me being more slim/toned.. oh well thats what the army can do to you!.

We ended up raiding Hereen opposite thereafter, that is after quite alot of catching up during lunch itself. It just felt that, hey it had been almost 10 years & now we are here seated together again, face to face & man I got nothing much to say cos I’ve so much to catch up on- I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO START! But we chatted.. yea & alot… it was fun. or maybe I am just living up to my past (& present) reputation of a chatterbox duo back then… Anyway I was just being myself.. chatty & stuff.. once you open up the Pandora box that is.. *wink**wink*

My best primary school pal, Daniel is in tenga airbase now, where Weisheng is vocated too as an aviation vehicle spec (aka runway resurfacing worker) he says.. haha amazing how titles can sound so impressive, but often misleading! Though I haven’t met Daniel since we graduated, he still have an impression of me, but not Weisheng! haha… poor fellow. John Chia is a popular model who I got no clue about either, you can’t even google him.. so is that considered popular? Few mirgrated/studying overseas. Connie went MIA, Junior turned lesbian (well everybody love lesbians right? including other lesbians… lol). Some went slinky to sumo sized.. Lol, interesting what catching up was there…

Finally managed to redemn my 77th street prize voucher on a new billabong sling bag for poly/college & a new 0.6L SIGG bottle to compliment my current-super-dented 1.0L one. Appiled for their membership with outstanding credits. Got 3 friendship elastic bands, yellow, black & white with “mottos” imagine (I like), hope & fun. Neato! thanks to Yee koon for the lobang at Giodano @ Taka. We all parted again later in evening, as it was mother’s day so dinners on the family…

Cheers to weisheng, yeekoon, sherlyn & junhong till our next class gathering.. cheers!

P.S oh sherlyn! can e-mail the photos you took? Thanks!

KL trip update

0

Well, had been REALLY sometime since I’ve updated my site. well first off of the trip to KL, its a great trip with an equal dose of theme parks & shopping. Even mum & me got to be quite immune to dad’s occasional temper at the parks, jus junk him with shopping & food & he would be as good as new. Got about few hundred photos yet to upload on the trip & 3 full mini-DV tapes of raw video to edit for the holiday video. Till my finished project for the army side, well that is another long working assignment to be spent in front of the computer again! & today’s the 5th of may. Happy Birthday dad!

Update well, some preview photos…

Light in ARR

Training was at Keat Hong camp on Tuesday, the officier team was training there too & our teammate PTI Richard got us up for a friendly competitive run against them. It would be about 10+teams of 5 people each for the mock 1.44km route relay. The officers started stunningly fast at the start, putting their fastest runner’s first, very good overtaking first impression though. But that changed after midrace, where we specs, have an opposite strategy- having the fastest runners last, & we caught up with them & with one of the spec teams finishing 1st & smashing all opposition in the end. Kenvin, our fastest runner did it again with his impressive speed, our trimph card too. Overall, it was a good race, a first taste of competition on the actual route too. Though I felt that I didn’t run my best, as I was still recovering from the 9km I ran the day before. My timing was still sub 5mins though, hoping to hit sub 4mins soon.

Mid april crises? or is it?

Worked myself silly a the gym on Monday. Gassed myself with Tear Gas at the PLC gas camber on Tuesday. Went on a Bell UH-1 live helicopter joyride on Wednesday with an LTC & CPT as my pilots. Oh well, its just another week of training. I saw physical training from monday to friday too, in other words.. EVERYDAY… The last week ended with me running 5.13s for 1.44km on the latest of the ARR trails. It was selection too & only 15 out of 25+ usual teammates are in the team. Sad to see the rest go, we have been training so hard for months & selections, the day of choosen… would glad to see team spirit & see the “declined” turn up for training as a “morale booster” & hey I got myself into the team too. Duh! Reserved runner? haha.

Coaster Homework, week recaptionation!

0

As the day to the holiday draws closer, the excitement builds up, partly because I am some poor peep who haven’t or say, didn’t get the privilege to travel since he enlisted into the Army, pathetic peeps like us. Anyway, being a theme park freak, did some coaster research & hey, these are some of the “MUST RIDE” at Genting & KL’s Cosmoworld @ Berjaya Times Square, where I would be staying. Shortlisted:

Ride Highlights for the upcoming holiday

GENTING- First World Theme Park

  1. Euro Express (Indoor roller)
  2. Motion Master (Movie simulator)

GENTING- Outdoor Theme Park

  1. Corkscrew Coaster (Standard corkscrew)
  2. Flying Coaster (Lie down coaster)
  3. Space Shot (Free fall tower)
  4. Rolling Thunder Mine Train (Simple mine train)
  5. Cyclone (Pinfari compact coaster)
  6. Flying Dragon (Simple coaster)

Downtown KL- Times Square Galaxystation

  1. SUPERSONIC ODYSSEY (looping indoor roller)
  2. SPINNING ORBIT (Elevated flat ride)
  3. SPACE ATTACK (Inverter flat ride)
  4. DNA MIXER (“Wipeout like” flat ride)
  5. Misc Rides, OOORT’S EXPRESS, DIZZY IZZY

The last week saw a highlight of a 5km hill run at yishun park. Clocked in at 19mins 50s in total for the ARR training time trail. Not a bad timing below 20mins I say. Next week would be chemical defence at early week, together with live heli task on wednesday. Would be an interesting week, esp for the video camera!

Run progress

5mins 50s for 1.5km road relay & 9mins 32s on a 2.okm leisure run, these are my current training timings for the armour route relay (ARR) coming 13th May 05. The 1.5km saw a lag of 5s from my previous 5mins 45s. ARR is an event where various army armour formations compete each other on Baton based relays 1.5km per runner. My team had been training for few months now & its about 1 more month till the event. Would see to that, together with further improvement of timings! Just so addicted to running now, guess I should go into cross country or track & field in college or so. Just like most runners, I am aiming to bring my BMI to 20 from 21+ presently, more lean muscle + less fat = faster speed + lower timings due to lower weight resistance.

& hey on a different note, I am going for a holiday! It had been about 2 years + since I’ve gone oveaseas though. Sad life in the army. Not to mention the pile of paperwork one have to go though to do so- gotta renew passport, apply oveaseas leave, apply for exit permit lah… boring… So come 29th April to 2nd May I would be in Genting & KL, Malaysia, not the best of destinations though, but the last time I’ve been to Genting/KL was ummm, in primary school? Would like to see how greatly things have changed there now. Interesting spots would be the Genting theme park itself, both indoor & outdoor, not to mention the new shopping centers. I would be staying in Berjaya TimesSquare in KL on the 2nd phase of the tour, spotting an indoor theme park & coaster… whee would see myself bombarding myself with endless loops on the coasters with my camera, coaster cam here we go!

I am 21! (birthday update)

0

Ahha I am 21 already. It had been a very busy week & I guess this is gonna be one of the very memorable birthdays ever, even better than my 18th birthday celebration.

I always remember always being asked this question by friends many times, many years back on “what am I gonna do when I turn 21” back then our thoughts are always driven on the envy of 21 age-restrictions & privileges, but that was back then.. history. When you are REALLY 21, I guess I can rightfully answer that now- MEGA CELEBRATION dudes!

Spanning 3 birthday celebrations/dinners over a period of 3 days (19th, 25th & 26th of March). The first day (19th) saw a formal 10 course dinner with my relatives at Yan palace Chinese restaurant where the birthday cake was presented at the end of the dinner. The actual birthday celebration was reserved for a rather personal international buffet dinner with my family at Merchant Court, Swissotel where the night was spent chilling out in the nightlife of Clarke Quay. The 26th called upon an informal hill top combined birthday celebration for Lester & his bro too. Caught up with my old secondary school friends, catching up on much needed times.

& theres everybody!

Lastly I would like to take this opportunity to thank all, family, relatives & friends alike for attending & making the celebration(s) a success. Not to mention all the birthday cards, e-mails, e-cards, smses, presents & angbao! Thank You!

Photos of the event are now up in photo gallery.

IT show 2005

0

Dropped by the IT show at suntec yesterday & man was it FREAKING crowded. 1st time the shopping area got so packed, there was a stationary human jam lasting 5-10mins at times around the Yes! Eyewear store area leading to the exhitbition & convention center.

Link upped with John at the sony booth there where we started inching our way around the exhitibtion. Everything is roughly 10%-20% lower than normal prices in SimLim. Lots of bargains & so, hard to keep away impulsive tempation. Brought myself a Sony Dual Layer DVD-Writer (DRU-720A) at $109, together with some DVD-R & RW media. As I guess I should end my wait for a DVD-Writer since 2001… when writers cost at least $800 or so. Almost committed myself to a Jabra BT800 bluetooth headset costing $199 (no price reduction, but with a free car charger & Panasonic house phone). However, when it came to paying, I’ve reached my card spending limit! opps! Though embrassing at the moment, but Mmmm saved $200 by the bank… Though I had cash in hand at that moment, come to think about, why do I need a bluetooth headset? Furthermore, it lack some functions such as voice dailing, though it had a caller ID screen.

A bluetooth headphone would be cooler…

Am I crazy?

2

I hate to say this, but personally I find myself super addicted to exercise. Not to mention often missing the feeling of fatigue during my regimes… an adrenaline addiction? Maybe because of this, I see myself for the past 2 months running at least 9km (usually topping 12km) 3 times a week on monday, wednesday & friday evenings. Tuesdays & thursdays would be gym days on upper body mainly working on biceps, triceps, abs & chest. At the same time allowing my lower body to recover from the previous training day for the next. Sundays would be swim days, where I get around 1 hour of continous 50m lap swims.

I eat at least 4-5 meals a day in moderate amounts & TONS of fruits, like 2 oranges, 2 apples/pears a day. Not to mention my daily water consumption.. whoa! The feeling of getting even fitter is quite unreal, but quite satisfying at times. Not to mention the love of chasing, overtaking & lapping joggers at the park, I hope no one is easily offended of being slow in a way… Its just so fun zipping past them.. again & again! Moreover, I see myself getting more veiny all over, especially on the arms & legs. Its like am steriods or something… scary. Not bad,not bad… I hope to get my abs more profound by burning more belly fat in my runs.

All in hand, I guess I am glad to have the annual Amour Route Relay (ARR) to thank, which is around the corner on May 13th to kick start my training schedule. In which it has its own group training on mondays, wednesdays & fridays on top of my personal training schedule. This route relay involves a 1.5km sprint/run among teams of 15 runners, where of course the fastest 3 takes home the prize.

Quite shocking is the calculated distance I run every month. (12km) x (3 times a week) x (4weeks in a month) = 144km running distance covered in a month! Would so much training have an adverse effect on the body? especially the legs, such as wear & tear?

The power of dreams

2

I just have to get this on my blog, its just so.. real… I had a weird dream on friday, not like your average nightmare, but something worth marvelling about. Its a about meeting this girl by the name of Sherwin or Sherene or sort. I was enrolled in Singapore Poly, DME (diploma on mechcanical engineering), a possible option I would choose to further my studies instead of going overseas (expensive) later this year. I can faintly remember it was love at first sight, she was the kind I like english speaking/educated, pretty, cheerful, sporty type who just loves to spend time with her boyfriend, even during breaks & after class. Awww…… 😆 (I will just cut the details here)

What I know about dreams scientifically is that they are usually based on real life encounters for the day or so, or sort of a mental “recall”. However, I had not met anyone called Sherene or so from god knows when! The funny things in dreams is that I get to do things logically & make effective decisions, though I have no control over it, its like watch a movie without any play controls. Moreover, it the kind which just makes you ponder on the dream for awhile the moment you wake up, & like hey why did I choose that? Would I do that if I had the control or in real ife? Though there are exceptions & there are people who actually dream about the future & so, not to mention the ever popular deja-vu feeling you get from your dreams…

*sigh* I wonder when would I ever get to meet her again…

*jumps back to bed*
