Geared ahead.

2

It had been almost one month since I’ve touched my guitar… 🙁 or actually found time to relax & play the new games I’ve got the pass month… *sob* the absolute pressures of the Army Half marathon & Open house are definitely eating into my schedules, not to mention my weekend rest periods. Whats things becoming too? And why am I using such precious weekends to do work? so much for being dedicated, even the pay increment for NSFs next month won’t compensate much… anyway what can a merger $150 increase do?

On a lighter side, managed to get a off period next monday afternoon for my driving test. Here it is, drawing nearer, part II. here I go… getting geared for the test. 😯

Contacts… eww

0

*pokes eyes with fingers* neato. Booked out of camp around 7pm for nights off, got my dad to fetch me to tiong baru to collect my contact lenses ready today. As it was my first time with contacts, the optician very much spent some time teaching me how to put them on after like 3 tries, lost one lens to the floor & I finally got it! whee.. However, generally my degree of shortsightedness is around 75-100 degrees so I do not actually need much aid. Its just something niffy for those occasions like range, lectures.. etc. Though I do have a pair of specs.. lying, somewhere.. otherwise its always the shades man. 😉

wow sharp… I can see through stuff now…. whoa!

Project “project”

2

Went for driving this morning, again me and the instructor had talk on driving testers & I guess the Poh guy who took failed me the other month was rather notorious for doing so. Mr Yeo my driving instructor for the day even told me that my tester failed his own driving test 5 times, you think he will let me go off so easily on the first attempt? dang driving testers, getting so personal everytime. Overall I get the usual comments on “hey your driving’s not bad”, “blah blah blah” I think I am already there in driving, why is it so hard to pass! Oh well, I guess passing the real test is actually the true answer to all.

Moreover, I guess its time to get out of the black and post some updates on the flash movie I made for the army open house site. the video is to be used for the opening ceremonies of the Army open house. It’s an honor to have created it.

Its time for another week of army, & my horoscope says… try not to be so paranoid for the week. Lucky theres no range this week like the other, furthermore, lucky I passed last week’s ATP/M (advanced train fire package/ maneuver) range shooting with a carbine. Man was it tough…

Well, its monday tomorrow, the start of more things to come…

End of waterpolo season

0

Our last match ended about one week ago with a 10-3 win against 3rd Division, resulting in an eventual placing of 7 out of 11 in the whole national level, one place ahead of last year’s placing. All in hand we won 2 matches (against Combat Engineers & 3rd div) and lost 3 (against Arty, Commandos & Navy) throughout the competition preiod of 2 months+ . I have mostly my team and most particularly (& importantly) our manager Captain Goh to thank for putting in such great effort in this year’s games.

waterpolo

Well, done team, it had been a good year, lets see about next year!

Shopping spree

Dropped by to John’s house with him paying the cab fare from camp *duh* so I can get a look and troubleshoot his new, yet problematic computer. It turned out that nothing could be done after one hour of checking here & there, suspecting either a faulty graphics card or motherboard as nothing was displayed onscreen at all. The final decision was made to go to SimLim for some “professional help” in John’s uncle’s volvo X70 which he managed to “coup” without much resistance.

Troubleshooting the computer at Simlim only acts as a from of confirmation of my conclusion & its a motherboard problem afterall. Well pity that he have to wait 3-4weeks to get it fixed (considering that the board have to actually be sent back to taiwan for repairs) more before he can actually get his beloved new computer up and running. Patience dude! But I was actually quite pissed with the shop, Ja Maa trading very slow at service & most of all they don’t do 1-1 exchanges, considering them being the ones actually selling John the faulty board in the first place. Did some shopping while I was there & finally purchased the nostromo n52 speedpad for $59.90 after a bargain from $69.90, not a bad reduction I say, yet to try the new hardware online. Drove to Holland village for some chillout & a couple of foot-long subway sandwiches. There was a store selling the Canon powershot A80 digital camera I wanted at a steal-away-price of $589 plus a 128MB CF I card.
Definately a far cry from Harley Norman’s $699 price tag plus a 128MB CF I card & tripod, Best Benkin themselves going for $649. Went home only to go out again with my family for dinner.

Went to tiong baru plaza to get my daily contacts done and ordered, would in in by next tuesday. Visited granny thereafter followed by dinner at Parkway parade. Got an old game at MPH going at $13.90- WorldWar3 black gold & another guitar reference book for $36.90. Parkway parade is really happening not to mention new stores, the basement foodcourt, Jacksplace, Pizza hut & Swensens, not bad I say. Breadtalk is having some 4th aniversary sale thingy going on for 3-4days, and every bun on the house is going for $1, as we all know this is definatly bait for the kiasu Singaporean. And my mum have to spend $13 on just bread.. dammit when will she learn.. our neighbourhood bakery sells buns at most $0.60 everyday man!

New item up on wishlist.

Been researching for a good digital camera for sometime now, guess I its time to start saving for one which have the following features I want:

  • Relatively Small/compact design
  • Manual modes (for fine photography)
  • At least 4.0 megapixels (more than enough for 4R prints)
  • 3x optical zoom (a basic requirement)
  • Movie Mode (for short snippets here & there)
  • Optical viewfinder (no over dependence on LCDs)
  • Rotatable LCD screen or Lens (for self portraits or overhead shots)
  • Able to run on conventional alkaline battery (travel convenience)
  • Uses the compact flash media+ or typeII format (cheaper & larger capacity)

So far I’ve finalised a few good cameras which suits (but not all) my needs. And they are:
Canon A80, Sony DSC-W1, Sony DSC-V1 & Sony DSC-F88.

If you happen to come across and digital cameras which I’ve missed feel free to drop a note down here. 😉

Nothing special today, just spent the day at home playing Counter-strike, Battlefield 1942 & working on the second draft of the my flash work. Other than that, visited grans later in the evening. Dropped by to parkway parade for dinner at a hawker center. Did some shopping around the area & man I say the place changed alot since I’ve been there had been almost 1year+ , definately more things there now. Got a laquer finish and mini screwdriver set from a hardware store, while my family did some grocey shopping and such around. While I was in the hardware store, can’t wait for the day where I could happily purchase a probation plate to put on my car after passing my driving test. Woot! and Mmmm going at $13.90 at Vin mart’s store, now thats expensive!

Karpal, team team member in the AOH creative commitee just called just now, informing me of the rather impressive flash movie intro movie for AOH I cooked up dumbly in the first half of the week. Though it was incomplete, he said that superior saw it and it was just breathtaking they say. Glad they think so & I am happy that it rather a good job either, hey I was just doing my job!

Should I be in camp, well not this time, I’ve been attached to home they say. To get started with the website flash animation for the army open house. A job lasting one week, which I have to squeeze within 3 days as I have a course in Katib camp from Wednesday onwards. Hope all goes well for the designs and team. Hope I can actually put all my ideas on the topic to work, damn daydreaming! 😉

Had driving on Saturday afternoon. My driving instructor who I come to know, Mr Lee was an ex-instructor of SDC, aka SAF Driving Center at Kaki Bukit. And yea we did have quite a chat on things and stuffs, particularly about how the good old SDC still is. One thing he noted is that I drive as if I have a license, only that I don’t have a license! Maybe he said so after some “skillful circuit handling & parking” which I conied out by second nature. Well, too bad for me for failing last week’s test, BUT I should have a license now… Then we went on talking about testers in the school & how the Mr Poh I’got last week is one of the strictest testers around besides some Mr Chua & Ong there. Other testers are more lenient, only these few notorious ones… Moreover, he advised me to save money as my next test is late next month, go for lessons closer to my test date. It is so as the system waiting time now is about 1 month for retestees instead of the past (1 week). Things’ve changed… much now, he said…

So I see…
