Mizuno Mount Faber Run 2008 Race Details

Last year’s race was great! And after last year’s success, VGO will be having their 2nd annual regular go at the Mount Faber run again. For those who are familiar with the brief history is line of Mt Faber races are a resurrection of the annual race many years ago. Just hope the previous experiences of badly organised wave run last year do not spill into this run, considering ironically they are all organised similarly by VGO themselves.

Pluses for this year’s race will be a the availability of individual runner timings on top of getting more than a dark blue shirt, but at the expense of $10 more than last year’s fee and almost more than 2 times the runners to put up with.

Thanks to Claudio for the tip and heads up!

Distance about 10km, but with relief feats. Similar to last year’s race:

  • Henderson road up towards the industrial distripark, across the AYE towards Pasir Panjang road, then turning up the Mt Faber hill from Pender Road.
  • Passing round the route through Mount Faber landmarks such as the cable car station and comm tower.
  • Down Mt Faber from Faber lodge towards CHIJ at Bukit Purmei towards Tiong Bahru park, then Delta House before circling Gan Eng Seng School and back up to Henderson road for the finish.

    • yea, but the thing I am wary of is that there will be more than 3000 places open for this year 😯

last year’s one was ok, not too packed, but not too empty either, there was good overtaking areas except on when climbing mt faber, where all the runners have to go up on the footpath and not the main road, thats with less than 2000 runner only!

Hope they open up all the roads this year, or they will have a major congestion problem!

    • The distance is about 10km joker. 😉 sorry for missing that out, updated the details accordingly.

Mmm but I wonder with all those new “nice to run” henderson wave bridge and park connectors there, will the route possibility be changed at the last minute?

  1. I dun see a organiser like Mizuno and its relevant organisers are able to get the the entire road close like the AHM,Real Run or Standard Chartered Marathon done in past few years.
Just see what happened in the Mizuno Wave Run at Bedok Reservoir last year.Based on their experiences on organising events like this year in year out,I don’t look forward to them doing things like closure of the entire road.

    • yes that is true, you will notice too that from the past few mizuno runs too, the only full closure were only walkways, but roads are always kept to 1 to the most 2 lanes closed, but never fully.

  2. While i was considering whether or not to join the MFR,i saw on the brocedure i got from the mizuno shop that it requires us to collect the race pack at Changi South.Reason is bcos their main office is over there.

Once again VGO did a poor job in organising such events as it made people to travel as far as Changi South whereby transport is limited. They should have make the location more neutral instead.I was totally turn off.

  3. I have a friend who worked there part time packing items for last year’s mizuno race, generally what he said its near the Expo, so my search on the address confirms it.

For those who are wondering where Changi South Lane is, it’s within walking distance from Singapore Expo MRT, if you are commuting by train you only need to walk almost the full length of the expo and cross the road beyond it (about ~1km total distance), its a small industrial estate bunched up nearby. The building is in the center of the 1st map I’ve got from google earth, note the Singapore expo on the left of the map, the 2nd map is more accurate.

The industrial estate is quite sheltered, so those who are driving can simply just drive in and park there, otherwise, the expo nearby have plenty of lots as well.

Look for the building no. 10 which is the building right at the end, Their address is 10 Changi South Lane #06-01 (Singapore 486162). You can reach them at 65435829 if you need any additional help.
