Let’s take a dine-in at the upmarket Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill in Sunway, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The fine-dining establishment opened in Jun 2022, marking the chef’s first Malaysian restaurant. Situated in Sunway Resort Hotel Persiaran Lagoon, it brings the celebrity chef’s British heritage with a touch of luxury.

The interior boasts modern elegance with plush seating, dark wood accents, and warm lighting. The ambiance feels classy yet welcoming, making it suitable for both formal and casual occasions. Let’s take a dine in at their restaurant in Sunway.

A posh looking interior

Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill positions itself as a mid to high end dining establishment in the Ramsay restaurant line-up, above plane food, bread street kitchen but below Hell’s Kitchen and his Michelin-starred restaurants bearing his namesake. Also, this restaurant we are dining at today is located at Persiaran Lagoon, Bandar Sunway and is easily accessible by car or public transport and is situated just right off the hotel main lobby, with ample parking available at Sunway Resort.

Also, the restaurant’s design incorporates dark wood panels, plush seating, and striking chandeliers. The ambiance feels upscale yet welcoming. It’s a tad formal but not intimidating.

A bar and welcome area at the entrance greets visitors, leading into the main dining hall. Private dining rooms are available for an exclusive experience. This posh interior is reflected into Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant menu. It is no exception, offerings focus on premium ingredients and British-inspired dishes.

Their menu blends British classics with a modern twist and emphasizes premium ingredients. Highlights include classic favourites and signature creations. Like Beef Wellington, Fish pie to name a few. Here, their Classic Fish Pie (70RM) is a comforting and hearty dish.

It features a creamy filling with fresh seafood like cod, prawns, and salmon. A layer of buttery mashed potatoes tops it off, baked until golden brown. It’s rich and satisfying, showcasing traditional British flavours.

Also, the Grilled Lamb Chops (110RM) are a standout and more affordably priced main dish. These chops are marinated with aromatic spices and grilled to perfection, leaving them tender and juicy. Served with seasonal vegetables and a rich jus, they offer a balance of flavours that satisfy meat lovers.

To start your meal, the Bone Marrow Beef Tartar is a creative starter. It combines finely chopped beef with rich bone marrow for added depth. Seasoned with capers, onions, and mustard, it’s served with crispy bread for texture. Also, the flavours are bold and indulgent, perfect for adventurous eaters. Interestingly, you get burgers on their menu, but no Fish and Chips too.

Beef Wellington- a must try

Moreover, the Classic Beef Wellington (290RM) is the highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the star attraction here and lives up to its reputation, and you can’t get anymore British in a British restaurant having the staple pastry dish. It features tender beef fillet encased in a golden, flaky pastry.

Also an exterior pastry crust layers of duxelles and pâté brings and adds earthy depth of flavour, while the puff pastry encasing everything is perfectly crisp. The dish is served with sides like roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, making it a complete, satisfying meal despite the seemingly small portions.

The Beef Wellington at this restaurant lives up to its reputation. The dish is also one of the pricier offerings on their menu, though just slightly cheaper than the one we had previously at the Bread street kitchen in Marina bay sands.

Also, the preparation process is meticulous as shared by the staff, as they wheeled in a large loaf of the Wellington roll to be served in front of the table. Also, the result tad speaks volumes about Gordon Ramsay’s attention to detail. The beef is cooked to a perfect medium-rare, ensuring a juicy and tender bite.

Bone Marrow beef tartar, odd yet amazing

The starters menu offers several enticing options. The Bone Marrow beef tartar (75RM) is particularly noteworthy.

The raw tartar is creamy, soft and tender without tasting raw or musky. It is a cold indulgent starter which also looks odd served in-bone, with sides of toasted bread for balance.

Fine Desserts worth a taste

Now onto Desserts, the restaurant desserts itself is notable itself worthy of a mention. Their menu selections comprises of an assortment of sweet and creamy desserts are not to be missed. Also, they are typically priced in the 60-70RM range, which translates to about $20 SGD per dessert, which is a really affordable price as compared to the prices in Singapore which can go upwards of S$39. Also, their desserts is provide a nice closing to your mains. Let’s see what is good.

First off is their The Mille Feuille with Italian Meringue (60RM). The It features layers of flaky pastry and smooth cream, topped with a delicate meringue. It is sweet and delicate, with a light, airy texture that melts in your mouth. Also, it sits on top of a three-layers of cream and tart, topped with fruit and nuts on the top. The combination of textures and sweetness makes it a delightful sweet treat.

Moreover, the Passion Fruit Soufflé (69RM) is another highlight. Served inside a cup with a side of cream or sauce. The dessert itself is light, airy, and bursting with tropical flavour within with a subtle egg flavour. It is one of the more refreshing dessert options on the menu. Also, the Mango Knickerbocker Glory (58RM) is a fun and colourful sorbet dessert. It layers fresh mango, whipped cream, and a fruity sauce in a tall glass. Also, the vibrant presentation and sweet-tangy flavours make it a delightful choice for a refreshing finish.

Additionally, the Manjari 64% Chocolate Tart (68RM) is a must-try for chocolate lovers. This dessert features a silky chocolate filling with a hint of bitterness. Also, the cake itself is a solid blended chocolate which is consistent throughout the cake, with a buttery tart shell and a sprinkle of sea salt on the top elevate the flavours, creating a perfect balance.

Wrapping up

Service is professional and attentive, though peak dining hours can result in slightly slower service. Staff is well-dressed and knowledgeable about the menu, often suggesting pairings or specials. Reservation is strongly recommended to avoid long waits, especially during weekends or festive periods.

Lastly, on pricing, Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill is a luxury restaurant, prices lean towards the higher end. It is reflective of its premium location here at Sunway Resorts and the culinary branding of the Gordon Ramsey brand. Also, a typical meal for two could cost upwards of RM500, which translates to about $80 SGD per person including taxes. It is not a bad deal considering a similar meal would set you back at least twice more in Singapore. While most dishes impress, the side dishes like mashed potatoes and spinach may not justify their cost.

All in all, the overall dining experience here at Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill Sunway Resort Hotel is polished yet comfortable. It’s a tad formal but doesn’t feel overly stiff. The restaurant caters to both locals and international visitors seeking a memorable meal. The attention to detail in both food and service stands out, creating a balanced mix of luxury and approachability.
