Lad & Co is a British-style fish and chips restaurant at the Singapore Post building in Tanglin. The restaurant opened in 2021, it has gained a following for its hearty fried seafood and casual pub-inspired meals. The establishment is sited across from Tanglin Mall, tucked inside the SingPost Tanglin branch building, surrounded by other cafés and eateries. Let’s take a dine in and check out their Fish and Chips on offer.

Additionally, Lad & Co has an open-air laid-back beer garden vibe. You can find decorative Union Jack details add to the British-style beer garden fish and chips theme without being overwhelming. Also, restaurant seating is almost entirely outdoors on wooden benches under large umbrella shade and flanked by cooling vents to keep the outdoor heat out. It does feels comfortable even without air-conditioning. There are some indoors areas though you hardly see anyone seated within. The overall environment is informal and fuss-free. You see families, couples, and office workers dropping by for quick meals.

Moreover, restaurant service is fast-casual, where you order using at QR code with your food usually arrives within 15 minutes. Staff are friendly, efficient, not overly attentive. Do expect the place and beer garden do get crowded during weekends, especially around brunch or dinner hours. Outdoor seating is pet-friendly, so you might hear the occasional dog bark while eating.
A place for Fish and chips
Moreover, Lad and Co’s menu focuses on its star dish, beer-battered fish and chips. You choose between two sizes of Norwegian haddock fish and chips: 150g at $19.90 or 300g at $29.90. The smaller portion feels a tad small for dinner, so going large is better.

Also, the batter is light and crisp, never too oily, while the fish has a firm texture. Portions aren’t as large as Smiths Fish and Chips at Bukit Timah, but prices here are more affordable in the $20–25 range.

The fish batter is golden, crisp, and evenly cooked without being soggy or greasy. Chips come in two styles, you can have it either in original thick cut or battered thin cut. They arrive in paper-lined trays with lemon wedges and house-made tartar sauce.

Also, the chips are thick-cut and served in merger portions, paired with tartar sauce and mushy peas. Speaking of peas, you can also pick from condiments like curry sauce, mushy peas, or spicy tartar for $1.90 extra. Flavours stay true to the classic British format while adding a local touch.

Food quality is mostly consistent, though fried items can sometimes turn out oilier during busier hours. Fries are freshly cooked but could use more crunch. Portion sizes suit a single diner with room for sides or drinks, though bigger eaters may want more. Still, it feels close to British chippies without leaving Singapore.
Sides options
Furthermore, beyond fish, Lad & Co offers several sides and mains. Their Scotch egg ($11.90) is fine but not outstanding, so skip it unless you’re really into eggs. Mushy peas are worth adding for a traditional touch. Curry sauce, served warm, adds a nice kick to fries.

The Bangers and Mash ($18.90 for two sausages, $28.90 for four) is one worthy of try and tad another highlight. Here, you get English pork sausages, creamy mash, and beef-and-ale gravy. It is comforting and filling, perfect for sharing.
The beef pie is hearty but feels heavy if you are not too hungry. Burgers are also available but don’t stand out compared to the fish. Additionally, other sides include onion rings, calamari, oyster nuggets ($17.90), and scampi prawns ($17.90). If you want something quirky, try the fried Mars bar dessert for a very British finish. Extra chips are available at $9.90 per serving, handy if you can’t get enough.
Wrapping up
Ending with drinks on the menu, the beer garden offers happy hour options of beers, ciders, and wines. Prices hover around $11.90 to $12.90 per pint or glass. Options include Guinness draught, Heineken, house wines, and cocktails like Hendrick’s gin and tonic. Expect to spend at least $25 for a main plus about $12 for drinks.
The atmosphere is relaxed and simple. Expect some oiliness in the air, as with most fish and chips shops offering deep-fried mains, similar to what we dined in at Smith’s Fish and Chips previously at Bukit Timah. The smell of oily may stay on your clothes for the rest of the evening. Still, it is not a fine dining spot, but it delivers hearty fish and chips in a no-frills environment. It works well for a quick lunch, casual dinner, or a relaxed drink with friends.
All in all, wraps up our dine in at Lad & Co. The food portions are moderate, though could be larger for the price. It is not the most refined Western restaurant, but it does the job well enough with straightforward service. If you crave proper fish and chips in a laid-back setting, this place is worth trying. You find it at 56 Tanglin Road, #B1-01, Singapore 247964, inside the Singapore Post building. There is basement parking, and is accessible via Napier MRT and just a short walk from the Botanic Gardens. Lad & Co is open daily for both lunch and dinner.
