Niagara Falls, a world’s biggest
Furthermore, on bit of geography, the Niagara Falls collective name comprising of three waterfalls- the Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. The American falls sits on the US side and the larger Horseshoe falls on the Canadian side. Both waterfalls are best viewed from the Canadian embankment side.
Also, the Falls were formed by ice glaciers formed since the last ice age and receded to this Wisconsin glaciation. The falls sits about 30 km north-northwest of Buffalo, in the state of New York on the American side, and 120 km southeast of the Canadian city of Toronto, Ontario which we would cover more later.
Also, the massive falls themselves sits along Niagara River network, fed by the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario. Henceforth, the water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara through natural water erosion. Water here is fed by the large Lake Erie into Lake Ontario on the Canadian side before following through here and eventually exiting into the Atlantic Ocean.
Harmony of 3 waterfalls
Additionally, Niagara’s three waterfalls sits at the southern end of Niagara Gorge. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge, spanning the border between the province of Ontario in Canada and the state of New York, US.
The largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, also known as Canadian Falls, which straddles the international border of the two countries. Speaking of bilateral relations, the falls sits the international border between Canada and the United States. Immigration into the Canadian area is a breeze across the border. Separate note the 1000 islands is another place where you can straddle between these 2 borders.
Moreover, the Horseshoe Falls is not only the biggest, but the most powerful waterfall in North America. Additionally, remarkably, the amount of water flowing from the 3 waterfalls is the highest of any waterfall in the world. The falls has a vertical drop of over 50 meters at its highest. Additionally, this translates to about one hundred thousand cubic meters of water flowing over the fall’s edge every minute. Still, the falls are not exceptionally high in height, but makes up for it in sheer width.
A receding waterfall
Furthermore, Niagara Falls is a natural wonder of a waterfall first for its spectacular size and energy of roaring. Even at night, the sounds of the roaring water fill the shrill silence of the night. An international control dam sits upstream on the Canadian side to regulate flow. This controls the inflow from the Niagara Gorge on the Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.
In addition, interestingly, the Niagara Falls are always receding year in year. The churning water eats into vertical surfaces which the falls flow from. Over time the Horseshoe falls might be eroded into the American border.
